The concept was loosely based on the work of Mathias Fuchs and his book Phantasmal Spaces which deals with archetypical venues in games, like portal, forest, caves and so on. From these I choose “ruin” represented by Level Avalon and “forest” depicted in the Paradise Levels. Each painting is a level in a fictive video game world, where the symbols of the apple and the coin are points which the player gathers. I purposely omitted the main character, as I like to think of these paintings as a landscapes – topographies of a virtual space – with only the flora present with the occasional side character or monsters (bunnies, demons). Being purely imaginary, they can provide the viewer a dreamscape, escapism of sort between the real and purely virtual.
