„Horticulture of Decay“ investigates the shifting ecologies of the Anthropocene and Capitalocene through a living compost of organic matter, relics, and remnants of sacred sites. The installation reflects on decay as both an ecological process and a cultural critique - a gesture toward collaboration between species in an era defined by extraction and exhaustion. Drawing from Donna Haraway’s call to “make kin” within the ruins of capitalism, the work proposes decomposition as a form of resistance and renewal. Oil paintings on wood intertwine with soil, fungi, and gardening materials to form an environment where scent, texture, and image converge. The earthy aroma of geosmin and rot evokes the planetary metabolism that persists beyond human control. Saprophytic mushrooms, feeding on what has perished, become agents of survival and transformation. Within this composting landscape, „Horticulture of Decay“ envisions a post-human ecology where ruin, decay, and rebirth coexist as intertwined futures.
